Best Electric Toothbrush Techniques

Optimising your electric toothbrush technique can enhance your oral hygiene. Here’s how to use an electric toothbrush effectively:

Proper Positioning: Place the brush head at a 45-degree angle to your gum-line.

Light Pressure: Let the electric brush do the work; don’t press too hard or make rapid sweeping movements

Slow and Steady: Move the brush head slowly, spending a few seconds on each tooth.

Divide into Sections: Divide your mouth into quadrants (upper right, upper left, lower right, lower left) and spend about 30 seconds on each.

Timer: Use the built-in timer or set a timer for two minutes to ensure thorough brushing.

Brush All Surfaces: Brush the fronts, backs, and chewing surfaces of your teeth.

Pause at Transition: Pause briefly when moving from one quadrant to the next and from one tooth to the next to avoid any harm to enamel surfaces.

Tongue and Gums: Gently brush your tongue and massage your gums with the brush head.

Rinse and Clean: Rinse your mouth and clean the brush head after each use.

Replace the Head: Change the brush head every 3-4 months or as recommended by the manufacturer.

By following these techniques, you can make the most of your electric toothbrush for effective plaque removal and improved oral health. Please try to purchase a good quality electric toothbrush with sonic movement.

Disclosing tablets

Disclosing tablets are a valuable tool to monitor the effectiveness of your tooth brushing technique. Here’s how to use them:

Select a Disclosing Tablet: Purchase disclosing tablets from a pharmacy or dental supply store. They are typically available in various flavours.

Brush Normally: Begin by brushing your teeth as you would during your regular routine. Use your toothbrush and toothpaste of choice.

Chew the Tablet: After brushing, take a disclosing tablet and chew it thoroughly. The tablet will temporarily colour any remaining plaque on your teeth.

Swish and Spit: Swish the liquid around your mouth for about 30 seconds to ensure it covers all tooth surfaces.

Examine Your Teeth: Spit out the liquid and look in the mirror. The areas stained with the disclosing solution represent the areas where plaque remains.

Re-brush Stained Areas: Pay special attention to the stained areas and re-brush them using your toothbrush. Focus on improving your technique in those areas.

Rinse and Evaluate: After re-brushing, rinse your mouth thoroughly and check again in the mirror. Ideally, there should be no or minimal staining left.

Repeat as Needed: Use disclosing tablets periodically to track your progress and ensure consistent, effective brushing.

Disclosing tablets provide visual feedback, helping you identify areas where you may need to improve your brushing technique. It’s a useful tool for maintaining optimal oral hygiene and preventing plaque build-up.
